Make Your Own Halloween Candy – Candy Corn

Make your own inexpensive version of the classic Halloween treat.

First, mix together 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup butter and 2/3 cup white corn syrup in a medium pan and bring to a boil. Make sure to stir constantly so it doesn’t stick or scorch. Once it starts to boil, lower the heat and boil for about five more minutes.

In a medium sized bowl, mix together 2 ½ cups powdered sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt and 1/3 cup powdered milk. Now, add this mixture to the sugar mixture in the pan. Add a little orange food coloring and stir until the mixture cools. Shape into candy corn shapes and you’re done making this staple of Halloween candy.

Make Your Own Halloween Candy – Coconut Brains

This is an easy recipe to make (no baking or cooking required) and kids love to eat this brainy Halloween candy.

In a large bowl, mix together 3 ½ cups sweetened coconut flakes, ¼ cup softened butter, ¼ cup half and half, 2 cups confectioners sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, scoop the mixture out onto a cookie sheet. You may wish to line it with wax paper to prevent sticking. Shape into oval, brain-like shapes. Use a knife to draw lines down the center and on the side of each “brain” to add a little realism.

Let your brains chill in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before serving. This is a wonderful Halloween candy to serve at children’s Halloween parties.

How to Make Your Own Halloween Candy – Chocolate Covered Worms

This recipe for making your own Halloween candy is very easy to make and a favorite of kids and adults.

Melt 12 oz. chocolate chips and 12 oz. butterscotch chips gently in a double boiler. In a large mixing bowl, empty one package of chow mein noodles and one package of peanuts.

Once the sauce has melted, pour the chocolate and butterscotch over the noodles and nuts. Mix together well and then drop spoonfuls of the “worms” on to a cookie sheet. Chill in the fridge until the treats are firm.

These delicious treats will make you happy you decided to make your own Halloween candy this year.

Make Your Own Halloween Candy – Wizard’s Wands

This is a Halloween candy everyone will love!

Line a baking sheet with wax paper, spray with cooking spray and set aside. Mix one 14 oz. package of caramel candies (unwrapped) with 1 tablespoon water and cook over low heat until melted.

Dip pretzel rods into the caramel sauce and spread it over about 2/3 of each rod with a spatula. Make sure to leave a space at the bottom to hold the rod without getting too much caramel on your fingers. Once you’ve dipped, place the caramel covered rod on the baking sheet. This will make about twenty wizard’s wands. Store the caramel dipped wands in the refrigerator while you perform the next step.

Pour 10 ounces of chocolate candy coating into a small pan. Heat over medium heat until the chocolate is completely melted and warm. Now, dip the caramel covered rods into the chocolate, using a spatula to spread if necessary.

Return the almost finished “wands” to the cookie sheet and decorate with sprinkles and chocolate shavings. This is a very fun Halloween candy that can get messy so make sure to keep them refrigerated until time to serve!

Make Your Own Halloween Candy – Chocolate Warts

These tasty treats are always a hit with the kids! Add this to your Halloween candy repertoire.

Melt ¼ cup butter over low heat in a small sauce pan. Once melted, remove from heat and add 8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate. Cover and heat for 2-3 minutes or until chocolate is melted. Stir well.

Add ½ cup of heavy cream to the mixture, stirring constantly until thoroughly combined and chocolate is no longer shiny. Move to the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until the mixture is slightly firm.

Meanwhile, chop six 3 Musketeers candy bars into small pieces and place on a flat surface such as another cookie sheet. Once the chocolate mixture has become firm, roll it into balls and then dip into the chopped candy bars. Press gently to get the candy to stick.
