If you like to be creative and crafty, it’s easy to make and create your own Christmas cards and other holiday greeting cards. With the proper supplies, you can have a plethora of options for making home made Christmas cards.
Supplies Needed for Greeting Cards (this is just a short list, the possibilities are endless).
- Card Stock (white or colors)
- Embellishments (stickers, ribbons, buttons..etc.)
- Stamps (with various sayings such as “happy holidays” or a picture)
- Ink (for the stamps; various colors)
- Glue (glue stick, glue dots, any sort of adhesive)
- Glitter pens, markers, and/or colored pencils
- Glitter glue (various colors)
The first thing you want to do is plan the card that you are going to make. Are you using 3-D stickers for the front of the card or will you use a stamp? Do you want to add ribbon? Plan the card before you begin because you can’t erase or unglue items off of the card and you may end up throwing the card away.
Using Stickers on Greeting Cards
Using 3D stickers can really add style and flare to the front of a greeting card. You can pick and choose which stickers you want to put on the cover and you can even add a small one on the inside of the card by your signature or greeting.
Using Stamps for Greeting Cards
Stamps have many uses when it comes to making Christmas cards. There are so many various designs and sayings on stamps that you can mix and match them any way that you wish.
You can use a picture stamp such as a Christmas tree or Santa Clause, and then use glitter pens or colored pencils to color in the stamp. This adds a lot of color to the card and a bit of personality.
You can use sayings on the front such as, “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”, and then another saying or greeting on the inside of the card where you will sign your name.
Who doesn’t love glitter? There are so many ways to incorporate glitter onto your greeting cards. Use clear or white glitter glue on the front of your card to look like snow, or use another color to accentuate the picture on the front of the card. If you have nice hand writing, use glitter glue to write simple words such as “ho, ho, ho” on your card.
Always ensure that you give the glitter glue time to dry before putting the card into an envelope. A good idea is to place it up somewhere where no one will accidently touch it and smudge the glue.
You can always use various colors of paper to layer the front of your greeting card. You can even cut out a shape and then put your stamp or sticker onto the cut out, then glue onto the card.
These are just a few ways that you can make a greeting card. With a little bit of creativity, you can make all sorts of designs for your cards. You can also use these ideas to make other cards such as birthday cards, sympathy cards, and Mother’s Day cards.
