Halloween party with bugs, bugs and more bugs? Bugs – and decorations – can be fun, spooky, slimy or all three.
How about a gruesome good time? Create a body part party using kitchen items and food for guts? Peeled grapes become eyeballs, a shaped slab of cranberry sauce becomes a tongue, a peeled carrot is a bony finger. This is a great game when the items are covered so the kids can’t see, then ask them to place their hands inside to feel the “guts.” Decorate with plastic bones, skeletons, fake hands, ping pong ball eyeballs, whatever you can find. Hold zombie contests.
Go with a pumpkin theme – it’s easy and will be fun. Decorate with pumpkins, serve pumpkin seed treats, hold pumpkin decorating contests.
Going with a vampire-themed party can be fun and fang-tastic! Provide plastic vampire teeth for everyone. Decorate with cardboard coffins, fake beef steaks made of wood (get it – a wooden stake?), mirrors, and garlic ropes. Serve “blood juice” (deep, red fruit punch). Use your imagination and you’ll be sure to attract undead bloodsuckers.
Mystical Mythical Creatures
This party theme will bring out fans of fairies, Lord of the Rings and Narnia. Unicorns, trolls, fairies, and mermaids will enjoy this party.
This is a great Halloween party theme for very small children. Whether it’s Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Little Pigs, this theme draws from your favorite fairy tales. Check out a copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales for ideas.
Anything goes at this party. Kids can dress up as their favorite classic monsters (Frankenstein, Godzilla, etc.) or they can create their own monster. Have a “monster mash” dance contest. Give prizes for the most creative and original monster costume.
Pirate and Princess Party
This one is fun for the boys and the girls. Kids can dress as either a pirate or a princess. Decorations can marry the two together – a pirate treasure chest overflowing with tiaras and magic wands. A pirate’s parrot who wears pearls. A magic castle sporting a Jolly Roger flag. Be creative.
The sky’s the limit when you want to choose a particular theme for a Halloween party. Other possibilities include cartoon characters, retro ’60s, ’70s or’80s, dogs (think Scooby-Doo, Beethoven, Air Bud, Astro, Odie), cats (think Garfield, Heathcliff, Arlene, That Darn Cat, Tom from Tom and Jerry, Sylvester) heroes (doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, EMT’s, teachers, etc.), a favorite movie (Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars), Scooby-Doo.
Pick a theme and let your imagination run wild!
