Use Your Imagination to Gross Out Your Guests!
Young ghouls and gals can help make these three creepy, but easy recipes. Kids love icky looking food on Halloween. Adults, many of whom are kids in reality, love this stuff too. Add a few fun food trays to your party buffet, add a printed label so everyone will know what they are eating, and you’ll be the scariest host/hostess on the block!
SWEET WITCHES FINGERS
12 LADY FINGER COOKIES – FROZEN
6 RED OR BLACK GUMDROPS CUT IN HALF TO LOOK LIKE FINGERNAILS
1 RAISIN FOR EACH COOKIE
1 STRING VERY THIN BLACK LICORICE CUT IN ¼ SLICES
Thaw the ladyfingers and place on your serving tray. Use a doily underneath for added elegance. Place the gumdrop “fingernails” on the pointed end of the cookie. Add a raisin wart and a couple of licorice hairs. Let guests add whipped cream “puss” to their cookies. Icky good!
1 CARTON OF PREPARED BUTTERNUT OR SQUASH SOUP
1 CUP SHREDDED CARROT
½ CUP BROCCOLI BITS (CUT THE GREEN FLOWER OFF THE TOP)
1 CUP ¼ INCH DICE POTATOES WITH SKINS
¼ CUP RED PEPPER DICED FINE
GROUND PEPPER TO TASTE
This recipe can be doubled or tripled depending on the number of guests. Pour soup into a large pot, add veggies and simmer until the potatoes are soft, 15 to 20 minutes. Add ground pepper to taste and serve in bread or real bowls. Seconds anyone?
ONE DOZEN HARD BOILED EGGS
ONE DOZEN LARGE GREEN OLIVES WITH PIMENTO HALVED
THOUSAND ISLAND OR HONEY MUSTARD SALAD DRESSING
Boil and chill the eggs. Remove the shell and cut the eggs in half at the middle. Each eye should be the round yolk inside the white. Take one of the green olives per egg and carefully push the round side of the olive into the center of the yolk. Add a drop of Thousand Island or Honey Mustard dressing to the corner of the eye. Eat up sleepy heads!
Have fun with your Halloween party foods. Use your imagination and enjoy the fun of food with friends, neighbors and family. Happy Halloween!
