National Confectioners Association, “Experts believe that the next “big” trend in confections will be healthier confectionery options, specifically a growing demand for health benefits and ‘better for you’ ingredients, according to almost nine out of ten (88 percent) experts.”
I decided to hand out organic candy last year on Halloween, and tested several products. I found some tasted really good, and some not so good, but ended up with five that met both my criteria. First, the candy had to taste good. I didn’t want to disappoint any trick-or-treaters and end up with toilet paper strewn throughout my yard. Second, the candy had to be organic and be made from as many natural ingredients as possible. All of the candy listed below is certified organic. Yes, it might cost you a few bucks more to buy organic, natural candy, but after you turn off your porch light, you can go to bed knowing you gave your trick-or-treaters a healthier alternative.
YummyEarth Organic Lollipops and Candy Drops
These lollipops are all natural and are available in some amazingly tasty flavors. Blood Orange Cocktail is my favorite for Halloween. They even use organic pumpkin and organic black carrots to create their vibrant colors. These lollipops were a hit with all the kids, but I confess to being disappointed that I didn’t have any left over at the end of the night.
Available in a variety of flavors and quantities. The best deal is the Personal Bin, an assortment of 30 pops, starting at about $5.00 that you can find at many supermarkets and online retailers. www.yummyearth.com
