Special Must-Makes for Your Next Halloween Get-Together

You can put a special touch on your Halloween gatherings by serving more traditional treats instead of the typical bowls of candycorn and standard cookies topped with Halloween-decorated icing. These 2 recipes are simple but they don’t taste like that way!

Gravestone Pumpkin Cake

What you’ll need for cake:
– 2 cups flour
– 2 cups sugar
– 2 tsp soda
– 2 tsp baking soda
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– 2 cups pumpkin (canned or fresh)
– 1 and 1/4 cup canola oil
– 4 medium eggs
– 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
– 1 tsp of vanilla (1/3 less if you’re using Vanilla Extract)
– 1/2 tsp salt

—- Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease and flour one 9x13in pan or 2 8x8in pans. Mix together all ingredients
thoroughly in a large bowl by hand or by the the “mix” setting on a hand mixer for 5 mins. Pour the mix in to
floured pans and bake for 60 minutes. Take cake(s) out and let cool 1 hour before mixing and applying icing.

What you’ll need for frosting:
– 1 8ounce package of cream cheese (1/3 fat cream cheese can be subtituted)
– 2 tsp vanilla (less if using Vanilla Extract)
– 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
– 1/2 stick of margerine or butter
– 8 ounces powdered sugar
– 1 16ounce bag of mini Snicker bars
– one tube black icing GEL (the kind used to write with)

—- Mix together everything EXCEPT Snickers and tube of writing gel. Spread frosting. Take mini Snicker bars
and cut them in half across the short middle (so you end up with two grave-stone shaped pieces). With
your tube of black writing Gel, write RIP on each Snicker half so it reads correctly with cut-side down. Place
each Snicker Gravestones on the cake (cut-side down) in whatever manner you choose. I like to cut the cake
in to servable pieces, then place a gravestone on each piece to be served, some people like to place them
about the cake as if in a real grave yard…. either way, your guests will be impressed.

Jack-o-lantern Peanut Butter Bon Bons

What you’ll need:
– 16ounces powdered sugar
– 2 cups creamy peanut butter
– 2 cups Rice Crispies
– 1/2 cup butter or margarine
– 8 ounces milk or dark chocolate
– 1 ounce of paraffin wax
– 8 ounce bag of Pumpkin shaped candy corns

—- Mix together peanut butter and margarine. Heat on the stove on low-medium while stirring. Mix in rice
crispies and powdered sugar and stir for 3 minutes. Pour mix into a bowl to let cool for a few minutes until
consistancy is hard enough to shape. Form peanut butter mix in to silver dollar sized balls. Place each one
on wax paper and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Melt together chocolate and paraffin wax in pan on low-medium heat (don’t want to scorch) and dip peanut butter balls in chocolate until covered. Place dipped-balls back on to the wax paper and place in the refrigerator to chill for 20mins. Take out of fridge and gently press pumpkin shaped candy corns (1 ea) on to each bon bon. Place back in the fridge for another 1/2 hour and serve.

Happy Halloween!!!
