Holiday decorating is so easy when you have Christmas quilts on hand! Though the holidays are some months away, it is never too early to begin these seasonal quilt projects. Reviews of a Christmas quilt book and pattern follow.

Patrick Lose Christmas Title

A Patrick Lose Christmas-Whimsical Projects to Deck the Halls is a new release from C & T Publishing. This book will delight the hearts of quilters. It is suitable for beginners.

This innovative designer adds a unique spin to traditional seasonal motifs, such as Santa, Rudolph, snowmen, and nutcrackers. These twelve designs include appealing wall hangings, bed quilts, table runners, and pillows.

This full color title features both patchwork and appliqué projects, including a lovely Log Cabin table runner. There is a list of materials and supplies as well as a cutting chart for each project.

There are easy to follow, step by step, illustrated instructions from beginning to end. Full size appliqué templates are printed on pull-out sheets.

In the introduction are complete directions for all the basic techniques along with recommended fabrics and tools. There are tips on using fusible and finishing the quilts.

The Joyful Christmas Quilt Pattern

The Joyful Christmas quilt pattern by Cheri Safiotte-Payne was published by Indygo Junction. This features patterns for three gorgeous Christmas quilts and wall hangings in seasonal colors.

These mini quilts could also be used as table mats and table toppers. The pattern includes pieced and appliquéd designs. Hand embroidery can be added to the appliqués.

The Santa Christmas quilt measures 13¼ by 17¾ inches. This easy appliqué project sports a jolly St. Nick. The sack on his back contains a goose and a Christmas tree. Inner and outer borders surround the appliquéd center.

The smallest project in this pattern is the Joy quilt, which is 10¼ by 22 inches. It can be used as a table runner or door banner. For this design, the three letters of joy are pieced. Then, inner and outer borders are added. This project has appliquéd holly leaves and berries for accent.

The Merry Christmas pieced quilt is 22½” by 25″. The center consists of six pieced blocks that form the letters of merry Christmas. It has numerous holly appliqués surrounding the words.

For all of these projects, this pattern has complete, illustrated, easy to follow directions from start to finish. There are full size templates for the appliqués, pieced blocks, and alphabets.
