Arlington Heights is a suburb about 25 miles Northwest of the City of Chicago, in what is often referred to as the Greater Woodfield area. The village offers family friendly holiday activities to kick off the Christmas season. On Thanksgiving weekend the Christmas Tree will be lit, Santa Claus and his reindeer visit and the festive German Christkindlmarkt fills the village with merriment. Starting on Thanksgiving and continuing through the month are Clearbrook’s Wonderland of Light and Metropolis Performing Arts Center presentation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
Arlington Heights Christmas Tree Lighting
The tree lighting will be held on the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 28 at 4:45 pm. North School Park, Arlington Heights Road and Eastman Street.
The grounds of North Park School are brightly decorated with animated displays and colorful lights all season. The display is designed to walk through, but is also a delightful sight to drive by and enjoy.
Santa Claus Visits Arlington Heights
Santa and his reindeer will be at Harmony Park on Friday and Saturday, November 28-29, from Noon to 3:00 pm.
Arlington Heights Christkindlmarkt
The German Market in the Village of Arlington Heights runs from Friday, November 28 through Sunday, November 30.
A large tent provides shelter for people to enjoy the German music, entertainment, food and beer. A separate tent houses market vendors. Stroll through the display of lights at North School Park. The Christkindlmarkt in Arlington Heights is not on the large scale of the German market in downtown Chicago, but it offers a festive atmosphere without having to drive to the city. Music and entertainment is nearly continuous.
There is no charge for admission. Food and drinks will be available for sale. vah.On Friday and Saturday the hours are Noon until 10:00 pm. On Sunday hours are Noon to 5:00 pm.
Clearbrook Wonderland of Lights at Arlington Park Racetrack
Clearbrook’s Fourth Annual Wonderland of Lights is a drive through wonderland of holiday lights displays at Arlington Park Racetrack. Animated characters, Christmas scene, a twinkling ‘Elf Toy Factory’ display and the ‘World’s Largest Light Tunnel,’ are all parts of the spectacular wonderland of lights.
A drive through the wonderland is a great family activity for kids and adults. Bundle up the family and take everybody for a ride in the car through the decorated grounds.
Proceeds of the Clearbrook Wonderland benefits children and adults with developmental disabilities which are supported by Clearbrook.
Dates and Hours
The wonderland opens on November 27, at 5:30 and runs on the weekends until December 14, when the show becomes a nightly event through January 1.

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at Metropolis Performing Arts Center
The Christmas classic will be presented from November 25 – December 24. This family friendly holiday story about miserly Scrooge, Tiny Tim Bob Cratchit and the spirit of Christmas past, present and future. Admission $28. Children (12 and under $15).
