Spoonable Eggnog

Are you looking for something unusual to serve at your Halloween party? Do you want the taste of holiday cheer? Then I have the recipe for you. I got this delish recipe several years ago at an office party. I have since doctored it up a bit to add a bit more punch, or should I say rum.

This recipe does call for raw eggs. Although it is often recommended to stay clear of raw eggs, I’ve never had a problem with anyone getting Salmonella from this eggnog. You can easily substitute powdered whites and yolks or pasteurized yolks for this recipe if you are uncomfortable using raw eggs. Since it is the outside of the eggshell that has potential contaminates on it, I rinse my eggs off with water prior to cracking them.

Halloween Elixir (Spoonable Eggnog) Serves at 6


4 eggs, separated
1/2 cup sugar
dash of salt
½ t. nutmeg
1/2 cup rum
2 cups heavy cream, whipped


Optional (1 drop red food dye and 1 drop eye food dye)

Beat egg yolks until mixed well mixed.

Beat in sugar, salt, and nutmeg slowly into the mixture until yolks are thick and lemon colored. (if you plan to add food coloring do it now)

Beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks,

Gently fold the egg whites into the yolk mixture.

Next, fold in the whipped cream. Bon Appetite!
