This easy to make Christmas dog biscuit wreath will be enjoyed by dogs and people alike. Hang as a decoration then share with the dog after the holidays. All the biscuits are secured with ribbon so they remain perfectly safe to eat.
Items Needed to Make the Wreath
Most of the inexpensive items needed to complete this project can be found in a craft or department store. When selecting dog biscuits, pick the ones that come in colors as it will make a more colorful wreath. Using homemade dog biscuits, will make the wreath even more special. This is what is needed:
- 12″ wreath form (Styrofoam, straw, heavy cardboard, etc.)
- 3″ wide ribbon or strip of festive cloth
- Red and green colored dog biscuits
- 1 1/4″ wide ribbon in contrasting color to wider ribbon
- 1/2″ wide ribbon in gold or silver
- 3/4″ wide ribbon to make bow (wider ribbon may used if preferred)
- One wire twist tie
The length of the ribbons needed will vary depending upon the size of the wreath being wrapped, the number of biscuits used, and the distance between wraps, but generally at least one roll of each will be required.
The only tools needed to complete the wreath is a hot glue gun and scissors.
Wrapping the Wreath
Begin by gluing one end of the 3″ ribbon (red and white striped in photograph) to the wreath form. Then wrap the ribbon around the form, through the center, and around again overlapping the previous wrap a little bit. Repeat this process until the entire form has been covered. Cut the ribbon and glue securely.
Using the 1 1/4″ ribbon (green in photograph) glue one end to the back of the wreath. Wrap the ribbon around the front over two dog biscuits (one green/one red) and through the center. Hold ribbon tight and bring back around to the front, over two more dog biscuits, and back through center working around the wreath in the same manner until back at beginning. Pull the ribbon tight and glue at the back. Form a loop with the ribbon, twisting it halfway, and glue in place. This will be used to hang the wreath.
Take the 1/2″ wide ribbon (gold in photograph) and glue onto the 1 1/4″ ribbon in back. Wrap the ribbon around on top of the 1 1/4″ ribbon and over a biscuit centered over the two already in place and continue wrapping around in the same way until back at the beginning. Glue the ribbon to hold.
Make a Bow
Complete the wreath by making a bow. Cut a long length of 3/4″ ribbon (wired preferred) or simply remove from the roll. Beginning about 5″ from the end, make a loop and pinch between finger and thumb to hold and make another loop the same size opposite the first. Go back and forth until there are five loops on each side. Make a smaller loop in the center to hold a biscuit and slide the twist-tie through the loop. Twist it tight in back and separate the loops to create the bow. Trim the ribbon ends and glue the bow to the finished wreath.
Quick and easy to make, this wreath is a nice gift for some special dog owner or as a different sort of decoration for the home.
