Pretty much as soon as Halloween is over the pumpkin on your porch starts to sag and really smell horrible! Your first thought is of course, time to throw it away, but there are other things that you can do with it. If you are someone who is trying to be more environmentally friendly and responsible, you may consider recycling your pumpkin.
Did you know that you can still use a pumpkin for decorating even after Halloween has passed? If the pumpkin that you have, happens to be in decent shape, you can use it still for other things. You take the time to clean the inside of the pumpkin out and place flowers or a vase inside to the flowers and make a pretty centerpiece for your table outside.
You can use the pumpkin to make many different things to eat during the week. Try roasting the seeds as they can make a really yummy, healthy snack for both children and adults. Make a couple of pumpkin pies or some delicious pumpkin bars or soup. The possibilities are endless when it comes to pumpkins and food!
If you have or have not started a compost, now would be a good time. You can throw the pumpkin in and add tons of nutrients to your plants or soil. You can also just take the pumpkin and cut it up for any deers or other kinds of wild animals you have to eat on. If you live near a zoo, consider donating it to them so the animals will get a yummy treat.
Check with the recycling company as they may be able to get rid of the pumpkin for you. During the fall season, some areas set up certain bins for people to throw their used pumpkins into. This is especially true if their happens to be an organic recycling center near you.
Getting rid of a pumpkin is so easy if you take the time to think about all the possibilities. The solution could be right under your nose and you not even know about. Always think about the earth with everything you and how you could end up making this a better place for us all to live!
