Some folks really love to dress up their front door for the holidays. Wreaths can be especially expensive, and even hard to find for certain holidays. One holiday that people really love to go crazy over decorations is Halloween. There are so many cute, spooky and fun decorations in the stores these days, but not wreaths. Some people are content enough to hang a fun sign on the door, but others are sticklers for tradition, and that means always having a wreath on the door. Here’s a cute idea for a Halloween wreath that is easy and inexpensive to make!
You will need:
A 12″ black wreath (can be found at most craft stores around Halloween)
1 package of ‘spider web’
A plain wooden wreath filler decoration
Black, yellow or orange mini ornament balls
A hot glue gun
- Prepare your wooden wreath filler decoration. Paint or color the wood of the wreath filler. Use colors that will compliment the color of the wreath and the accessories you have chosen. (I used the spider with the block so I could write a personal message to hang down in the middle of the wreath.) Set aside and let dry.
- Stretch as little or as much of the spider web over the black wreath as you like. It will stick to the wreath, so there is no need to use glue at this point.
- Adhere the mini ornament balls (or any other accessory you may have chosen) to the wreath using the hot glue gun. Try to evenly space the accessories, and alternate the colors for a fun effect!
- Attach or adhere your wreath filler to the middle of the wreath. Usually, they are hung from one of the bottom branches around the top of the wreath. Do this from the back of the wreath, so no one will be able to see it.
*If you’d like to go for a more whimsical look, add a cute ribbon around the wreath, or at the top. Craft stores now offer a wide variety of ribbon to choose from.
*Involve the kids! If you like, let each child make a wreath to hang on their bedroom door. If they share a room, they can make a wreath together. Wreath hangers fit over most doors, are found in most craft stores and are very inexpensive. Let them color in and decorate their own wreath fillers and have fun spreading out the spider web! Be sure to keep an eye on them or help them with the hot glue gun!
