Published by Mimi Escober

tweens and teens. These are all great Halloween movies that are sure to please and not wake them in the middle of the night with nightmares.

1/ Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride
Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride is a combination of love, comedy and a touch of horror. The Corpse Bride is set in a 19th Century European village and tells the tale of Victor who is a mild-mannered Victorian gentleman. Victor is suddenly whisked away to the underworld where he accidentally marries Emily the Corpse Bride. Victor was supposed to marry Victoria who is left behind in the land of the living waiting for him. Victor finds the land of the dead to be much different from the world he has grown up in but wants to be with Victoria in his world. This movie is great for tweens and teens.

2/ Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
Jack Skeleton lives in a world where each and every holiday has its own town. Halloweentown is where Jack Skellington who is otherwise known as the Pumpkin King lives. But Jack is looking for what lies beyond Halloweentown, he’s become bored and wants more. Maybe something more than the dreariness that Halloween Town has to offer him. Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is an extraordinary movie that incorporates all the perfect qualities a remarkable ghoulish tale should have like horror, comedy, fantasy, and love. You’ll watch The Nightmare Before Christmas with morbid fascination as Jack Skellington enters Christmastown and kidnaps Santa in an effort to take over Christmastown. This is the perfect movie for tweens and teens.

3/ Coraline
Coraline is a unique animated movie about a young girl named Coraline who crawls through a secret door in her new home. The secret door leads Coraline to an alternate version of her life in this “Other World”where her “Other Mother” and “Other Father” are attentive to her and have buttons for eyes. At first Coraline loves this “Other World” but she is yet to find out that things aren’t what they really seem and if it looks to good to be true it usually is.

4/ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has been to be the best in the series by critics. If you’ve loved the previous Harry Potter movies then you’ll love this one. It has more action and spell turning twists then it’s predecessor’s.

5/ Beetlejuice
Directed by Tim Burton Beetlejuice is timeless in my eyes. It’s the story of a husband and wife who are recently deceased ghosts that hire “Beetlejuice” who is a “bio-ecorcist” to get the family who moved in their house out. It’s full of laughs and scares. Beetlejuice is sure to deliver.

6/ SpongeBob Squarepants – Halloween
Why not head to Bikini Bottom for some Halloween mischief. Go ahead and dive into that underwater adventure that is Bikini Bottom and spend some time with the lovable sea sponge SpongeBob and all his friends. Follow SpongeBob and his friends as they embark on five eerie adventures. “Imitation Krabs,” “Frankendoodle,” Scaredy Pants,” “I Was a Teenage Gary,” and of course”Squidward, the Unfriendly Ghost.”

7/ The Witches
The Witches is a wonderful tale about a young boy named Luke who goes to live with his Grandmother after his parents died . His Grandmother takes him on a holiday to a very nice hotel in England .Unbeknownst to Luke and his Grandmother a coven of child hating witches is holding a convention at the same hotel. It’s at this convention that the Grand High Witch declares that ALL children in England be turned into mice. That’s where Luke’s adventure in this story begins.

8/ Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is a movie about 3 kids who break the spell of the three Sanderson Sisters. The Sanderson sister’s are 17th century witches (wonderfully played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy I might add), who were convicted of witchcraft in Colonial Salem, Massachusetts. They were all put to death over 300 years ago. But they are conjured up and brought back to life when “a virgin lights the black candle”. Now it is up to two teenagers and an eight year old to stop the three wicked witches from succeeding with their evil plan. They plan on luring all of the town’s children to them to drain their life-force away from them.

9/ Halloweentown
When Marnie turns 13 she learns that she is a witch. On the advice of her grandmother Aggie, Marnie finds herself brought into a world that is known as Halloweentown. In Halloweentown Marnie feels at home because there are people there just like her. It’s filled with witches, sorcery, and ghosts. But Halloweentown also has evil warlocks and other being’s that start to give Marnie trouble. Halloweentown has cute characters, a good story line, and great acting.

10/ The Gremlins
The Gremlins is a movie about a guy named Billy who’s dad buys him a mogwai for Christmas who they later name Gizmo. Billy’s dad got Gizmo from a dark shop in Chinatown even though the owner did not want to sell Gizmo. The rules for caring for the mogwai may seem simple but turn out to be harder to follow then they thought. Some water accidentally spills on Gizmo which causes more mogwai to reproduce from Gizmo. Billy doesn’t realize what he’s gotten himself into until Gremlins start to over run his town and wreak havoc and destruction everywhere they go.
